What is AI DLP?

AI DLP, or AI Data Loss Prevention, protects sensitive data before it reaches AI tools and browser-based AI workflows.

AI DLP in plain language

AI DLP is Data Loss Prevention for the places people now use AI: prompt boxes, pasted text, uploads, and browser workflows. It helps detect sensitive data before it is sent to tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and other AI services.

The goal is not to block AI by default. The goal is to make AI usage safer by checking content at the moment it is about to leave.

How it differs from traditional DLP

Traditional DLP products were commonly designed around channels such as:

  • Email
  • Files and cloud storage
  • Endpoints
  • Network traffic and proxies

AI tools introduced another path: users can paste secrets into prompts, attach exports, or upload text files directly from the browser. AI DLP extends data protection controls into that workflow.

How InputGuard approaches AI DLP

InputGuard is browser-native AI DLP. The extension runs where prompts are written and checks protected AI sites before content is sent.

  • Prompt protection at submit time
  • Paste protection before text enters an AI tool
  • Supported text attachment scanning before upload or submit
  • Local detection and policy decisions on the device
  • Metadata-only audit visibility for organizations

Browser-native means before the exposure

Because detection happens in the browser, InputGuard can warn, redact, require a reason, or block before the prompt or supported attachment reaches an AI service.
